About the Program

This program developed from the vision of University of Cincinnati Surgeons who work in the Division of Trauma and Critical Care.  It is a direct response to the significant increase in violence (mostly due to guns) that the Cincinnati community has witnessed over the past five years.

Out of the Crossfire is a violence intervention initiative. Its focus is on helping Cincinnati area people who are victims of violence or involved in violent activities.  The program provides case management and mentoring that promotes positive opportunities for patients to move their lives forward while they heal.

Hospitals are often faced with difficult circumstances when they discharge victims of violence.  All too often, the person is returning to the same environment where they suffered injury. When there is no "prescription" for change, the victim of violence enters a "revolving door," where one violent act leads to another ... and another ... and another in an unending cycle. Out of the Crossfire helps people change their lives by breaking out of this cycle.
